Obituary of C. Martin Bomberger
C. Martin Bomberger, 100, formerly of Lititz, PA, passed away peacefully on Thursday, June 13, 2014, at Pleasant View Retirement Community in Manheim. Born in Penn Township on October 15, 1923, he lived all of his years in the same community. He was the youngest of seven children born to the late Cyrus M. and Lydia Douple Bomberger. He was the husband of the late Verna A. Heller Bomberger, his loving wife, with whom he shared 73 years of marriage before her death in 2016.
He is survived by two daughters, Lois, wife of the late David L. Landis, of Manheim, and Linda, wife of J. Marlin Boll, of Lititz; seven grandchildren; 13 great grandchildren; and 11 great, great grandchildren.
Martin was a longtime member of Erb Mennonite Church, Lititz where he served as trustee and was on the cemetery board. He farmed his father’s farm for 25 years. After moving off the farm, he was employed by Bomberger’s Store, installing flooring. He enjoyed vegetable and flower gardening, hunting and spending time at Hemlock Haven, their cabin he built in Perry County. He also constructed their house situated on the family farm and created many wooden items for the family through the years.
The family thanks the wonderful, caring nurses and staff at Pleasant View Retirement Community for their excellent care given to Martin while he was a resident.
In addition, he was preceded in death by two brothers, Homer and Phares Bomberger; and four sisters, Elizabeth Groff, Anna Shelly, Amy Heisey and Kathryn Wenger.
A funeral service will be held on Friday afternoon, June 21, 2024, at 3:00 PM at Erb Mennonite Church, 567 West Lexington Road, Lititz, PA 17543 with Pastors Lew Wagner, Mike Zimmerman, and David Schrock officiating. There will be a viewing at the church on Friday afternoon from 2:00 PM until the time of the service. Interment will follow in the adjoining cemetery. In lieu of flowers, contributions in Martin’s memory may be made to Pleasant View Benevolent Fund, 544 North Penryn Road, Manheim, PA 17545 or to Erb Mennonite Church.
