Obituary of Evelyn D. Sunday

Evelyn D Sunday
June 7, 1930 - September 30, 2024

Evelyn was the widow of Howard J Sunday, the love of her life, who died November 8, 2014 at 87.  They were married for 62 years.

Born in Greenwich Township, she was the daughter of John and Edna (Meitzler) Bechtel.  Evelyn was one of 7 children - John Bechtel, Christine Clauser, William Bechtel, George Bechtel, Kathryn Kohler, Alice Essig, all of whom are deceased.  She is survived by one son, Brian A Sunday (Desiree), and three daughters, Brenda M Bock (Steven), Denise A Savoye (Thomas) and Lisa M Sunday.  Three grandchildren Christopher Sunday (Rebecca), Anita Sunday and Melissa Townsend (Peter) and 2 great grandchildren.

Evelyn was baptized as one of Jehovah's Witnesses in November 1956.  She loved sharing her faith with others and her beautiful hope of living on a paradise earth in the near future.

Evelyn was known for her beautiful smile and happy nature.   She also was known for her hospitality and delicious meals which included her famous Butterhorns and custard pies.  There was always room for more people at her supper table.

Evelyn grew up on a dairy farm and had many stories to tell, including getting up before walking to school over snow as high as the fence posts and milking one or two cows before breakfast.  Even in her later years after suffering from Alzheimer’s, she was concerned about going out to milk those cows.

Howard and Evelyn enjoyed traveling and helping to construct many Kingdom Halls and branch facilities.  They also shared in Hurricane relief work on some of the islands.

They lived a rich and rewarding life together and will be missed by all.

A memorial service will be held for Evelyn on October 19th, 2024 at 4:00 pm at the Kingdom Hall of Jehovah’s Witnesses, 921 Fruitville Pike, Lititz, PA  17543.  All are welcome to attend in person.  To attend via Zoom, you may contact a family member or your local congregation for details.
