Obituary of George A. Fisher, III

George A. Fisher, III, 87, of Mount Joy, PA, formerly of Elizabethtown, went home to be with his Lord and Savior on Thursday morning, February 1, 2024 at Hospice and Community Care’s Bob Fryer & Family Inpatient Center in Mount Joy. Born in Elizabethtown, he was the son of the late George A. “Junior” Fisher, II and Merium Naomi Etnoyer Fisher. George was the husband of Rosalie Mae Hannon Fisher for 64 years on October 25.

George was a faithful member of Temple Bible Church and a former longtime member of Mount Calvary Church, both in Elizabethtown.  He served six years in the Air National Guard and earned the rank of sergeant.  After receiving an associate’s degree in electrical engineering from Penn State University, George was hired by IBM in Harrisburg where he was employed for more than 33 years before retiring in 1994 as a Senior Computer Specialist.  George then worked as a hardware analyst for Blue Cross in Harrisburg until 2009.  After his father’s death in 1961, George also assisted his mother in the family television and appliance business by servicing and delivering these products.  

George lived a wonderful life filled with family and friends.  He was an avid Penn State football fan and enjoyed watching Nascar and Indy car racing.  He also enjoyed flying his Piper Cub and Piper Cherokee airplanes and introducing his son to flying.  Later in life he transitioned to building and flying remote control airplanes.  He and his wife enjoyed taking drives in the Lancaster County Amish country.  They also shared a love for cats having taken in and adopting many feral cats over the years.

In addition to his wife, he is survived by two children, Brandi F., wife of Chuck Tait, of Mount Joy, and David A. Fisher of Castro Valley, CA; a grandson, Jacob Fisher; and two siblings, Rosemarie Kreider and Phillip E. Fisher.
